In July, Lupe took her second Dingo Vacation of her fabulous summer of 2017. The American Dingo began with the mighty Wind River Range of Wyoming. The Winds were not easy! Despite adversity, Lupe did score an initial success climbing Wind River Peak, the 3rd highest mountain she has ever climbed. However, beautiful Squaretop Mountain at the opposite end of the range eluded her. She was forced to settle for New Benchmark instead.
Then it was on to Montana, where Lupe linked up with peakbagging friend and mountaineer Jobe Wymore. There was music! (When you are with Jobe, it’s all Grateful Dead all the time.) There was adventure! Lupe and Jobe shared ascents of Mount Powell and Sacagawea Peak, a pair of mountains both featuring well over 3,500 feet of prominence.
For the grand finale, Lupe joined Jobe on his attempt of super-prominent Crazy Peak in south central Montana. Jobe completed the entire list of the most prominent peaks in each of the 50 US states, which put him within one peak of completing the EPIC list – including the highest, most prominent, and most isolated peaks in each state!
Involving relatively few, but individually challenging mountains, Lupe’s 2017 Dingo Vacation to the Wind River Range and select peaks in Montana turned out to be a mixed bag of successes and failures. Win or lose, though, the scenery was amazing, the company was inspiring, and the days were full of Dingo freedom and fun!
