{"id":55780,"date":"2024-10-30T08:10:16","date_gmt":"2024-10-30T14:10:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adventuresoflupe.com\/?p=55780"},"modified":"2024-10-30T11:00:02","modified_gmt":"2024-10-30T17:00:02","slug":"black-hills-sd-expedition-no-327-pillar-peak-peak-5452-dome-mountain-4-4-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adventuresoflupe.com\/?p=55780","title":{"rendered":"Black Hills, SD Expedition No. 327 &#8211; Pillar Peak, Peak 5452 &#038; Dome Mountain (4-4-24)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>8:02 AM, about ready to leave home<\/em>\u00a0&#8211;<\/p>\n<p><em>Seriously, SPHP?\u00a0 We&#8217;re making yet another attempt on <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Peak<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/peakbagger.com\/peak.aspx?pid=132437\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">5452<\/span><\/a><\/strong>?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Yup!\u00a0 One more try, Looper.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Well, it better work this time, SPHP.\u00a0 These multiple fails are starting to be embarrassing.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Don&#8217;t worry, Loopster, you know what they say &#8211; fourth time&#8217;s a charm!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Third<\/strong> time!\u00a0 It&#8217;s supposed to be the <strong>third<\/strong> time that&#8217;s a charm, SPHP!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Eh, who&#8217;s counting?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I am, SPHP!\u00a0 Three fails already trying to get to <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Peak<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/peakbagger.com\/peak.aspx?pid=132437\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">5452<\/span><\/a><\/strong>!\u00a0 Doesn&#8217;t that mean anything to you?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Actually, it does, Loop.\u00a0 It means we&#8217;re going to start running out of new routes to even make an attempt, if we don&#8217;t succeed pretty soon.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll get there, though.\u00a0 Today!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>9:13 AM, 62\u00baF, Camp 5 Trailhead<\/em> &#8211;\u00a0 Such a beautiful morning!\u00a0 Already incredibly warm for an early spring day, too.\u00a0 Lupe leapt out of the RAV4 in fine spirits.\u00a0 A S wind was swaying the treetops, but there was scarcely a breeze at ground level.<\/p>\n<p><em>We&#8217;re in for a long, but memorable day, Loopster!\u00a0 If we manage to tag Peak 5452, you&#8217;ll essentially be done with accessible <a href=\"https:\/\/listsofjohn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Lists of John<\/strong><\/span><\/a> peaks with at least 300 feet of prominence in the Black Hills.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>If you want my opinion, SPHP, the way things have been going, I&#8217;d say Peak 5452 is only semi-accessible, at best.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Confidence, Sweet Puppy!\u00a0 Onward!\u00a0 Puppy, ho!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Whether Peak 5452 was actually in the cards, or not, Lupe knew it was going to be a marvelous day for an adventure in the Black Hills.\u00a0 Leaving the Camp 5 trailhead, she headed S on Lost Gulch Road <em>(USFS Road No. 172)<\/em>, eager to make the most of it.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_55723\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-55723\" style=\"width: 1651px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IMG_3803-scaled.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-55723\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IMG_3803-scaled.jpg?resize=660%2C495&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"495\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IMG_3803-scaled.jpg?w=1651&amp;ssl=1 1651w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IMG_3803-scaled.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IMG_3803-scaled.jpg?w=1320&amp;ssl=1 1320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-55723\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Setting out from the <strong>Camp 5 trailhead<\/strong>.
