(6-30-22)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Day 15 of Lupe&#8217;s 1st Summer of 2022 Dingo Vacation to Wyoming!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>6-30-22, the wee hours, Upper Crow Creek Lake<\/em> &#8211; Coming to for the 2nd time tonight, SPHP stuck the little flashlight out of the tiny house, and swept the faint beam around the surrounding area.<\/p>\n<p>There she was!\u00a0 15 feet away, Lupe was laying all by herself out on cold, bare ground, silently contemplating the brilliant stars in an otherwise ink black sky.\u00a0 Sniffing the night air and listening, she glanced over.<\/p>\n<p><em>I&#8217;m fine, SPHP!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Yeah, I see that, Loop.\u00a0 Glad you&#8217;ve got sense enough to never wander too far off and get lost.\u00a0 Still, I always feel like I&#8217;ve got to check on you every so often.\u00a0 Maybe you ought to come back into the tiny house?\u00a0 Warm up, and have a nice snooze.\u00a0 Big day coming up.\u00a0 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/peakbagger.com\/peak.aspx?pid=17298\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mount Fitzpatrick<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(10,907 ft.)<\/span><\/strong>, if we can get there!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>There&#8217;s something primeval about the night, SPHP.\u00a0 I love being out here!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I know.\u00a0 I always feel it, too.\u00a0 The night whispers to one&#8217;s soul, especially alone in the wilderness with the unfathomably ancient universe ablaze above.\u00a0 Well, enjoy, but don&#8217;t stay out too long.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t fall asleep out there.\u00a0 You never know.\u00a0 We may not be as entirely alone as it seems.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>First light, Upper Crow Creek Lake<\/em> &#8211; Wrapped in her red sleeping bag, the Carolina Dog was snoozing peacefully, all toasty warm.\u00a0 Across the lake, <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Peak<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/peakbagger.com\/peak.aspx?pid=-72842\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">10525<\/span><\/a><\/strong>\u00a0was exquisite in the morning alpenglow.\u00a0 SPHP felt restless and uneasy, maybe a bit queasy.\u00a0 The sky promptly clouded up, the alpenglow vanishing.\u00a0 Suddenly, Peak 10525 was drab and lifeless compared to what it had been only moments ago.<\/p>\n<p>Should probably get going, but lethargy triumphed.\u00a0 Maybe it would be better to wait a while, get some more sleep?\u00a0 Simply smart to give this summer day a chance to soften the snowfields on Mount Fitzpatrick&#8217;s steep N face, right?\u00a0 Seemed logical enough, and a perfect excuse.\u00a0 SPHP took an Alka-Seltzer Cold Plus, rolled over, and tried to get back to sleep.<\/p>\n<p><em>Morning, Upper Crow Creek Lake &#8211;<\/em> Yikes!\u00a0 That certainly worked.\u00a0 Nearly 10:00 AM!\u00a0 Although still not all that energetic or confident, SPHP did feel better.\u00a0 Resting nearby in brilliant sunshine, Lupe was outside the tiny house again, calmly watching the world.<\/p>\n<p><em>Shoot!\u00a0 You should have woken me up, Loop!\u00a0 Didn&#8217;t mean to sleep so long.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Hated to do that to you, SPHP.\u00a0 You were really sawing wood.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>You mean snoring?\u00a0 I never snore.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Oh, really?\u00a0 Coulda fooled me, SPHP!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Well, never mind that.\u00a0 Getting you some Taste of the Wild.\u00a0 Eat it quick, and we&#8217;ll split some beef jerky as a morning picker-upper.\u00a0 Then we better get with it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Beef jerky?\u00a0 Awesome!\u00a0 Bring on that Taste of the Wild, SPHP.\u00a0 It&#8217;s doomed!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>10:02 AM, Upper Crow Creek Lake<\/em> &#8211; all gone, Loopster.\u00a0 After those first glimpses of <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Peak<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/peakbagger.com\/peak.aspx?pid=-72842\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">10525<\/span><\/a><\/strong> yesterday, I was almost certain we were doomed to failure.\u00a0 Glad we didn&#8217;t try this a week ago, though.\u00a0 Might still have been enough snow back then to prevent us from getting up here.\u00a0 That big snow-free stretch on the E side of the N face was key.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Good call delaying Fitzpatrick until after <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/peakbagger.com\/peak.aspx?pid=17299\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mount McDougal<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(10,780 ft.)<\/span><\/strong> and the Snake River Range, SPHP!\u00a0 Worthy of a chocolate coconut bar!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Believe you&#8217;re on to something there, Looper!\u00a0 Should be one in the pack.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Mount Fitzpatrick&#8217;s summit was crescent-shaped, with 2 lobes extending E and SSW from a circular central region 20 feet in diameter where the cairn was.\u00a0 Plenty of room to stroll around a bit, and nothing at all up here to block the views in any direction.<\/p>\n<p>After a pawshake congratulating Lupe on her latest peakbagging success, SPHP grabbed a white plastic tube from the center of the cairn, then sat facing E on bare ground nearby.\u00a0 Assisted by a famished Carolina Dog, a chocolate coconut bar performed its disappearing act.\u00a0 Loop then curled up on SPHP&#8217;s lap.\u00a0 Munching an apple, SPHP had a look at the registry contained within the white tube.<\/p>\n<p>The registry consisted of loose full-sized sheets of paper printed out with columns for name, date, address, and comments.\u00a0 2 or 3 pages had been completely filled out, easily sporting 50 to 60 names dating back as far as 2010.\u00a0 At least 3 dogs had been up here, too.\u00a0 Unfortunately, the entire registry, including all the extra pages, was sopping wet.<\/p>\n<p><em>Just a mess, aye, SPHP?\u00a0 Too bad!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Yeah, these blank pages aren&#8217;t going to be usable.\u00a0 I&#8217;m just going to pack them out, but we might as well leave the pages that are already completed, since most of the entries are still legible.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>You&#8217;re not going to add my name to the registry, SPHP?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Oh, of course I will, Loop.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll tear a page out of our small notebook.\u00a0 the Gros Ventre Range was on the NNE horizon, and the Wind River Range NE.<\/p>\n<p>Much closer, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/peakbagger.com\/peak.aspx?pid=17299\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mount McDougal<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(10,780 ft.)<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0and <strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">10525<\/span><\/a><\/strong> was due E .\u00a0 Way below it, a sliver of Upper Crow Creek Lake was visible just to the N.\u00a0
