Nothing happening today except rest and recuperation!\u00a0 Not after the Carolina Dog&#8217;s late return from <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/peakbagger.com\/peak.aspx?pid=2430\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Diamond Peak<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(8,744 ft.)<\/span><\/strong> yesterday.\u00a0 Lupe was content snoozing or gazing out the RAV4&#8217;s windows.\u00a0 Only when a squirrel or chipmunk appeared, did she leap out to bark at it a few times before returning to her comfy perch on a pile of blankets.<\/p>\n<p>Sunny and hot.\u00a0 SPHP interrupted work on the trip journal to move the RAV4 to a shadier spot, then draped blankets over the windows.\u00a0 At 10:30 AM, people came by looking for the Diamond Peak trailhead.\u00a0 After that, pickups and ATV&#8217;s roared by, raising dust at long intervals.<\/p>\n<p><em>8-30-21, 6:33 AM, 39\u00baF, same spot<\/em> &#8211; Morning mist was drifting over the pond.\u00a0 Light out, but the sun wasn&#8217;t up yet.\u00a0 Directly overhead, a bright white half moon hung in a bone white sky.\u00a0 Smoky!<\/p>\n<p><em>Guess that settles it, Loop!\u00a0 We&#8217;re done with the Cascade Range, at least for the time being.\u00a0 Trip journal&#8217;s caught up, so bid farewell to our little pond.\u00a0 We&#8217;re heading out!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Are we going to the Oregon coast, SPHP?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Yeah.\u00a0 If we can&#8217;t find blue skies there, I don&#8217;t know what we&#8217;ll do.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Heading NW on Hwy 58 after the scenic drive back to Oakridge, SPHP was surprised to see that the smoke already wasn&#8217;t as bad here.\u00a0 In fact, skies were gloomy.\u00a0 Looked like a storm was coming in!\u00a0 Drizzled for a few miles, but didn&#8217;t amount to much.\u00a0 Too bad, a real soaker would have done poor, parched Oregon a world of good.<\/p>\n<p>NW of Junction City, during an exceptionally windy drive through deep forests to Alsea, blue skies and puffy white clouds appeared.\u00a0 A bit hazy, whether due to smoke or humidity it was hard to say, but not bad at all.<\/p>\n<p><em>Hey, looks like you&#8217;re in luck, sweet puppy!\u00a0 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/peakbagger.com\/peak.aspx?pid=1080\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Marys Peak<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(4,097 ft.)<\/span><\/strong> isn&#8217;t too far N of Alsea, want to try it?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I will, if you will, SPHP!\u00a0 Are you sufficiently recovered from Diamond Peak?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Oh, yeah!\u00a0 Marys Peak shouldn&#8217;t be that hard.\u00a0 It&#8217;s got some great stats, too!\u00a0 3,357 feet of prominence, plus 48.57 miles of isolation, so its a major peak of the Oregon Coast Range.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>8 miles N of Alsea at Alsea Summit, Hwy 34&#8217;s high point, SPHP turned L onto the road to Marys Peak.\u00a0 6 winding, paved miles led to a sign.<\/p>\n<p><em>East Ridge Connor&#8217;s Camp.\u00a0 Think that&#8217;s what we want, Loop!<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_39764\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39764\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/IMG_2485-scaled.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-39764\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/IMG_2485-1024x768.jpg?resize=660%2C495\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"495\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/IMG_2485-scaled.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/IMG_2485-scaled.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/IMG_2485-scaled.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/IMG_2485-scaled.jpg?resize=1536%2C1152&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/IMG_2485-scaled.jpg?w=1651&amp;ssl=1 1651w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/IMG_2485-scaled.jpg?w=1320&amp;ssl=1 1320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-39764\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">By the East Ridge Conner&#8217;s Camp sign. aren&#8217;t going to get any tonight, either, sweet puppy!\u00a0 And I was so looking forward to it!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>8-31-21, 9:01 AM, 67\u00baF, Devils Punchbowl<\/em> &#8211;\u00a0 A gorgeous day!\u00a0 Trip journal caught up again, and the early morning chill was pretty much over and done with.<\/p>\n<p><em>Can&#8217;t leave the Devils Punchbowl without another stroll along the beach, Loop!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Great minds think alike, SPHP!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Once again, Lupe trotted down the long wooden stairs to the beach.\u00a0 Still hardly anyone around, but the mood was different.\u00a0 The day was young and bright as the Carolina Dog ventured S.\u00a0 SPHP walked barepaw in the water as much as possible, until it got too cold, then warmed up on the sand.\u00a0 Rinse and repeat!\u00a0 Lupe liked the wet sand right along the water&#8217;s edge best, but waded in after SPHP plenty of times.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_39801\"
