start working the 300+ foot prominence lists this year, since you&#8217;ve been to just about every named peak in the Black Hills that we can legally climb.\u00a0 Quite a few of them more than once.\u00a0 Gives us new places to explore!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I&#8217;m all for exploring, SPHP!\u00a0 Sounds good!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>By the time Lupe got back around to the windy N side of Custer Peak, a line of gray clouds could be seen approaching from the NW.<\/p>\n<p><em>Wonder if that&#8217;s the lead edge of the front coming in, Loop?\u00a0 Didn&#8217;t think it was supposed to get here until this evening.\u00a0 Hope the wind doesn&#8217;t get too much stronger.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Started out OK, but sure hasn&#8217;t warmed up any today, either, SPHP.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Reaching the saddle leading to Peak 6600, Lupe left the road, plunging right into the dense, snowy forest.\u00a0 A 260 foot climb almost due S would get her up to the 6600 foot contour at the NW end of the summit some deadfall, but mostly just trees and snow.\u00a0 Lupe had done this once before, nearly 6 years ago, and been rewarded with a fantastic view of Custer Peak.\u00a0 Best one possible, in fact, since Peak 6600 was the easily the highest point anywhere close to Custer Peak, and the summit ridge had a nice rocky spot where an unobstructed view could be obtained.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_32018\" front must be here early!\u00a0 Let&#8217;s get up to where we can get a couple of nice shots of Custer Peak before the weather deteriorates any further.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Didn&#8217;t take long.\u00a0 A few more minutes, and Loopster was there, standing in the cold wind on the rocky viewpoint at the NW end of <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Peak<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/peakbagger.com\/peak.aspx?pid=-99033\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">6600<\/span><\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>An hour had gone by since Lupe had left Custer Peak.\u00a0 What a change!\u00a0 Not only had all hint of sunshine utterly vanished, but a massive soft gray cloud hung low over everything.\u00a0 Only on the far horizon did a brighter line had a ring of truth to it.\u00a0 SPHP looked down at the American Dingo standing patiently on the snowy road, earnestly returning SPHP&#8217;s gaze.\u00a0 All around, the forest was a mystery of fog and tiny swirling flakes.\u00a0 Treetops swayed in the wind, releasing occasional cascades of fresh accumulations.\u00a0 Snowing harder.\u00a0 Even Loop was starting to turn white.<\/p>\n<p>Not really that bad out.\u00a0 Barely cold enough for snow, but the temp was supposed to drop, the winds increase.\u00a0 Would it even be possible to find <strong>Peak <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">6480<\/span><\/strong> in the fog?\u00a0 Suppose Lupe did, what then?\u00a0 Not going to see a thing.<\/p>\n<p><em>What do you think, Loop?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>About?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Call it, or go on?\u00a0 We can come back, and do <strong>Peak <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">6480<\/span><\/strong> another time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Awesome out here in the snowy woods, isn&#8217;t it, SPHP?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Absolutely!\u00a0 But possibly pointless, too.\u00a0 Not sure it&#8217;s worth trying to go all the way to <strong>Peak <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">6480<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0 Might not recognize it, even if we find it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Whatever you want to do, SPHP!\u00a0 You know I&#8217;ll be there!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Truer words never spoken.\u00a0 Not spoken now either, only conveyed by those completely trusting eyes.\u00a0 No sense in letting a friend like that catch pneumonia!<\/p>\n<p>So, Expedition No. 265 came to an
