intersection near Mayo, a distance of 53 km.\u00a0 To the R, the community of Mayo was somewhere not too far away back in the forest.\u00a0 SPHP turned L toward Keno.\u00a0 The Silver Trail now headed N as a perfectly fine gravel road.\u00a0 The highway went past a number of lakes, but nothing could be seen of them.\u00a0 Lupe did see the Mayo River from the Minto Bridge.<\/p>\n<p>After crossing the Minto Bridge, SPHP kept an eye out for the Halfway Lakes.\u00a0 Just beyond the lakes, a side road was supposed to appear on the L.\u00a0 This was the road to the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/peakbagger.com\/peak.aspx?pid=-72094\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mount Haldane<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(6,023 ft.)<\/span><\/strong><\/span> trailhead.\u00a0 If the turn was missed, a sign for the Silver Trail Inn ought to be visible at km 76 shortly thereafter.<\/p>\n<p>Both of the Halfway Lakes were almost completely hidden from view.\u00a0 While passing between them, SPHP was only dimly aware of a lake on the W (L) side of the highway.\u00a0 However, a sign with a hiker symbol on it appeared on the R shortly before a side road was seen on the L.<\/p>\n<p>The highway curved E.\u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/silvertrailinn.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Silver Trail Inn<\/strong><\/span><\/a> promptly came into view near the shore of E Halfway Lake.\u00a0 Alright!\u00a0 That must have been it!\u00a0 SPHP turned around.\u00a0 The side road was only 0.25 mile back.<\/p>\n<p>The Mount Haldane trailhead was supposed to be on the R about 2 km from Silver Trail Highway No. 11.\u00a0 Sure enough, a big area scooped out of the side of a hill appeared.\u00a0 It was rather stony for a parking area, but reasonably level.\u00a0 No other vehicles were around, which wasn&#8217;t terribly surprising.\u00a0 SPHP parked the G6, and got out for a look.\u00a0 Nothing here.\u00a0 No signs.\u00a0 No information.\u00a0 No trail.<\/p>\n<p>Loop sniffed her way around the entire perimeter.\u00a0 SPHP followed her, peering into the forest.\u00a0 The only thing visible was more forest.\u00a0 Huh.\u00a0 Seemed like this ought to be it, but maybe not?\u00a0 Maybe the trailhead was farther?\u00a0 Wouldn&#8217;t hurt to check.\u00a0 If that didn&#8217;t work, perhaps someone back at the Silver Trail Inn might know how to find it?<\/p>\n<p>Lupe and SPHP piled back into the G6.\u00a0 More like 2 miles from the Silver Trail another big opening appeared on the R.\u00a0 This one was grassy, not stony.\u00a0 No other vehicles here, either, but the Carolina Dog was scarcely out of the G6 before she was able to confirm this was the right place.\u00a0 Near a dilapidated outhouse was a sign for the Mount Haldane trail.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20504\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20504\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0677.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-20504\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0677-1024x768.jpg?resize=660%2C495\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"495\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0677.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0677.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0677.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0677.jpg?w=1651&amp;ssl=1 1651w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0677.jpg?w=1320&amp;ssl=1 1320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20504\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lupe arrives at the Mount Haldane trailhead. but this was definitely the right place!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Weather conditions weren&#8217;t actually that great.\u00a0 The sky was completely overcast.\u00a0 The entire upper portion of Mount Haldane was lost in the clouds.\u00a0 Patches of fog drifted by the lower slopes.\u00a0 Sprinkles of rain were sometimes felt.\u00a0 However, the trail had been found, it was barely raining at the moment, and it was already getting to be late morning.<\/p>\n<p>May as well give it a shot!\u00a0 As soon as SPHP was ready, Lupe headed out on the trail to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/peakbagger.com\/peak.aspx?pid=-72094\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mount Haldane<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(6,023 ft.)<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0 <em>(11:05 AM, 51\u00b0F)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The trail began as a narrow, sandy road.\u00a0 It soon linked up with another sandy road, which had been seen earlier shortly before reaching the trailhead.\u00a0 The joint trail headed NE, and soon lost its sandy quality.\u00a0 The surrounding forest was dense, and the air very humid.\u00a0 It had rained here very recently.<\/p>\n<p>For the first km or so, Lupe gained little elevation.\u00a0 She passed through a couple of long puddles right on the trail where a small stream crossed it, the only surface water she came to.\u00a0 The trail eventually turned N, and began to steepen.\u00a0 Soon Loop was gaining elevation at a good, steady clip.\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t all that warm out, but with the humidity so high, SPHP was sweating and had to shed layers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20507\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20507\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0680-e1552336413360.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-20507\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0680-e1552336413360-768x1024.jpg?resize=660%2C880\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"880\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0680-e1552336413360.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0680-e1552336413360.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0680-e1552336413360.jpg?w=1650&amp;ssl=1 1650w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0680-e1552336413360.jpg?w=1320&amp;ssl=1 1320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20507\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">After a km or so, the trail curved N toward Mount Haldane.
