{"id":17587,"date":"2018-12-10T08:10:02","date_gmt":"2018-12-10T15:10:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/adventuresoflupe.com\/?p=17587"},"modified":"2019-02-18T17:30:52","modified_gmt":"2019-02-19T00:30:52","slug":"dry-fork-ridge-bighorn-mountains-wyoming-6-12-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adventuresoflupe.com\/?p=17587","title":{"rendered":"Dry Fork Ridge, Bighorn Mountains, Wyoming (6-12-18)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Day 4 of Lupe&#8217;s 2018 Dingo Vacation to the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming &amp; Beyond!<\/em><\/p>\r\n<p>This was it, about as close as the G6 was going to get.\u00a0 SPHP parked near the intersection of USFS Roads No. 168 &amp; 149.\u00a0 Lupe had a long trek, a good 5 or 6 miles down Dry Fork canyon ahead of her.\u00a0 At least the view was encouraging.\u00a0 What could be seen of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/peakbagger.com\/peak.aspx?pid=27437\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Dry Fork Ridge<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(8,480 ft.)<\/span><\/strong> looked climbable.<\/p>\r\n<p>How hard it might be to find the true summit once Lupe got up on the huge ridge was another matter.\u00a0 The top of the mountain appeared to be densely forested.\u00a0 The Carolina Dog might be in for quite an ordeal before she could claim a successful ascent of Sheridan County, Wyoming&#8217;s most prominent peak.<\/p>\r\n<p>Lupe wasn&#8217;t worried in the least.\u00a0 She eagerly set off down USFS Road No. 149 (Lower Dry Fork Road) under blue skies, a 15 to 20 mph NW breeze in her face.\u00a0 <em>(9:39 AM, 51\u00b0F)<\/em><\/p>\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_17544\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17544\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_9428.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-17544\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_9428-1024x768.jpg?resize=660%2C495\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"495\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_9428.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_9428.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_9428.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_9428.jpg?w=1651&amp;ssl=1 1651w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_9428.jpg?w=1320&amp;ssl=1 1320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17544\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Loop ready to set off down Dry Fork canyon on USFS Road No. 149. <strong>Dry Fork Ridge<\/strong> is the forested hill on the R. Photo looks NW.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n<p>A miles long mostly downhill trek was certainly an unusual start for a peakbagging quest.\u00a0 Loop cheerily trotted ahead of SPHP making rapid progress. The water wasn&#8217;t deep at all, but SPHP crossed back near the trees since the stream bank along the road was so mucky. It could most easily be seen from the N.
