H. Keith Memorial Park along Hwy 71, 10:02 AM, 34\u00b0F<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Blue sky!\u00a0 A welcome sight!\u00a0 This day was going to be fine after all.<\/p>\n<p>Good thing, too.\u00a0 It had been a while, and Lupe was anxious to get back out in the hills.\u00a0 The forecast was for the first near normal temperature day since March, a vast improvement over April&#8217;s chilly start.\u00a0 However, on the way here SPHP had begun to wonder.\u00a0 The sky had been so darkly overcast and the clouds so low, that SPHP had driven through stretches of fog with the headlights on.\u00a0 The temperature had sunk to a pathetic 14\u00b0F.\u00a0 Mighty brisk for nearly a third of the way into April!<\/p>\n<p>It was 20\u00b0F warmer here at the Cascade Springs picnic ground, though.\u00a0 Not a particularly bright day, but Looper was at least going to get some sunshine.\u00a0 She was eager to get going, and was soon happily sniffing her way along Hwy 71.<\/p>\n<p>Loop left Hwy 71 at USFS Road No. 328.\u00a0 The dirt road followed Cascade Creek SW for 0.33 mile before turning N to climb out of the creek valley.\u00a0 The road brought the Carolina Dog up onto the low end of a long ridge.\u00a0 <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/peakbagger.com\/peak.aspx?pid=-50479\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Devil&#8217;s Slide Mountain<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(3,965 ft.)<\/span><\/strong> was in view to the SE.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15664\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15664\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_8834.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-15664\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_8834-1024x768.jpg?resize=660%2C495\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"495\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_8834.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_8834.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_8834.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_8834.jpg?w=1651&amp;ssl=1 1651w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_8834.jpg?w=1320&amp;ssl=1 1320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15664\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Near <strong>Cascade Creek<\/strong>.
