Seems like a great place for waterfowl, SPHP, but I haven&#8217;t seen any yet. Maybe if we hang around, though, we&#8217;ll see some?<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Loopster was right.\u00a0 No need to rush off given the weather.\u00a0 If she wanted to bark at squirrels and play in the forest for a while, why not?<\/p>\n<p><em>11:23 AM<\/em> &#8211; The trip journal was caught up.\u00a0 Loop was back in the G6, her good times squirrel watching cut short by a steady rain.\u00a0 The day was looking gloomier and gloomier.\u00a0 What to do?\u00a0 Two choices.\u00a0 The first was to cut and run.\u00a0 The current weather on the Kenai Peninsula wasn&#8217;t conducive to outdoor adventures.\u00a0 No sign it was going to clear up, either.\u00a0 Maybe it was best to go back to Palmer, and then just keep going until Lupe found sunshine somewhere far from the rainy S Alaska coast?<\/p>\n<p>The other option was to carry on as originally planned.\u00a0 Head W all the way to Homer, and hope that the weather would improve by tomorrow.\u00a0 If it did, Loopster could take a water taxi across Kachemak Bay like she did last year when she got to spend a fabulous day on <a href=\"http:\/\/adventuresoflupe.com\/?p=7952\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Grace Ridge<\/strong><\/span><\/a> in <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.alaska.gov\/parks\/brochures\/kachemakbaybrochure.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Kachemak Bay State Park<\/span><\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 This year, the Grewingk Glacier might be a fun adventure.<\/p>\n<p><em>12:20 PM at the trailhead for the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/adventuresoflupe.com\/?p=8077\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Skyline Trail to the Mystery Hills<\/span><\/a><\/strong> along Sterling Highway No. 1<\/em> &#8211;<\/p>\n<p><em>What&#8217;s happening, SPHP?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We&#8217;re turning around, Loop.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Yes, I kind of gathered that.\u00a0 Did you change your mind?\u00a0 Are we going to Homer after all?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Yeah, I can&#8217;t stand the thought that we&#8217;re leaving after getting so close.\u00a0 Might be a complete waste of time, but let&#8217;s give it one more day.\u00a0 You never know, the weather might clear up and be beautiful like it did last year.\u00a0 We have an awful lot of great stuff we can do on the Kenai Peninsula, if we can catch a break.\u00a0 If it doesn&#8217;t work out, at least we tried.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>3:20 PM, 52\u00b0F at the Cook Inlet beach at Ninilchik<\/em> &#8211; near the end of Sterling Highway No. 1.\u00a0 Sadly, the weather showed no signs of improving.\u00a0 Only the base of the mountains across Kachemak Bay could be seen beneath low clouds.\u00a0 A heavy mist was falling as SPHP drove out to the Homer Spit.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the gloomy atmosphere, Homer Spit was alive with activity.\u00a0 Vehicles and people in rain gear were everywhere.\u00a0 SPHP dropped by a restaurant, and got an order of fish and chips to go.\u00a0 Lupe didn&#8217;t care for them, preferring salami and English muffins.\u00a0 Oatmeal cookies for dessert.\u00a0 Together Loop and SPHP sat in the G6 having dinner, while watching rain and fog over Kachemak Bay.<\/p>\n<p><em>6:32 PM, 52\u00b0F, rain and fog at the Homer Spit<\/em> &#8211; After dinner, Lupe went with SPHP to any promises.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lupe could go to see the Grewingk Glacier tomorrow, if she wanted to.\u00a0 The price of the round trip water taxi ride across Kachemak Bay was $80.33 including all taxes and fees.\u00a0 That was the good news.\u00a0 No problem, if that was the only consideration.\u00a0 However, there was the all important weather issue, too.\u00a0 The people at Mako&#8217;s weren&#8217;t expecting much change in the weather anytime soon.<\/p>\n<p>Well, if that turned out to be true, no Grewingk Glacier trip for Loopster.\u00a0 No sense in spending $80.33 to spend a whole day soaking wet, cold and miserable.\u00a0 Disappointing, but not unexpected.\u00a0 Nothing to be done about it, except wait to see what things looked like in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>Despite fog and light rain, after leaving Mako&#8217;s, Loop and SPHP took a walking tour of the Homer Spit.\u00a0 Lupe saw many boats on the protected NE side of the Grandma.\u00a0 Looper told SPHP what to write on it, making sure to send lots of love.\u00a0 The rainbow was still shining brightly over the ocean as Lupe and SPHP drove away from Homer Spit.\u00a0 SPHP stopped to mail the postcard before leaving Homer.\u00a0 When SPHP came out of the post office, it was raining hard.\u00a0 <em>(9:03 AM, 47\u00b0F)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Sheesh, Loopster, glad we The weather didn&#8217;t seem to have improved much.
