Visiting Babies Felix &#038; Owen plus a fun White Ranch Park outing (12-28-17 thru 12-31-17)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Christmas had come and gone.\u00a0 The year was almost shot, but Lupe had a final chance for adventure in 2017.\u00a0 Xochitl, Steve and baby Felix were flying into the Denver area from Chicago for a couple of days.\u00a0 They would be staying at Matt, Cassie and baby Owen&#8217;s home in Parker.\u00a0 Lupe and SPHP had an invitation from Joe and Andrea to come and stay in the Cowboy room at cousin Dusty&#8217;s home in Arvada.<\/p>\n<p>Adventures with babies?\u00a0 That was something new, and a rare opportunity!\u00a0 Babies have a way of changing fast, and not being babies any more.\u00a0 SPHP told Lupe that even though it would be a quick trip, there might be time for an outdoor adventure or two as well.\u00a0 Even if Loop wasn&#8217;t certain about how adventures with babies might turn out, the year was going to end with bitterly cold subzero weather in the Black Hills.\u00a0 Nothing was going to happen these last few days here at home.\u00a0 So, did Loopster want to go to Colorado?<\/p>\n<p>Cousin Dusty comes to visit the Black Hills every so often, so Lupe&#8217;s ears pricked up at the mention of Dusty&#8217;s name.\u00a0 Loop hadn&#8217;t been to Colorado, though, for a very long time &#8211; not since November, 2015.\u00a0 She could scarcely remember the Cowboy room at Dusty&#8217;s house, other than a vague sense that it had been a great place to stay.\u00a0 There hadn&#8217;t been any babies around back then, but Lupe had climbed a couple of choice Colorado county high points.\u00a0 That had been fun!<\/p>\n<p>Babies in Colorado, with the possibility of an outdoor adventure or two?\u00a0 Or stay home and spend the rest of the year laying on the living room rug staring bored-to-tears out the window at a subzero polar display?\u00a0 Hah!\u00a0 Lupe knew the answer to that one!<\/p>\n<p>The novel adventure began on the frosty morning of 12-28-17 <em>(6:58 AM, 16\u00b0F)<\/em> when Lupe left home in the G6 comfortably riding shotgun atop her usual pile of pillows and blankets.\u00a0 A Dingo Vacation in the winter was something completely unheard of up until now.\u00a0 Lupe had great expectations!<\/p>\n<p>At first those expectations were disappointed.\u00a0 Hwy 471 S of Edgemont was snow-packed and slippery.\u00a0 The day hadn&#8217;t warmed up a bit.\u00a0 SPHP cancelled two possible short peakbagging breaks in the Nebraska panhandle, deciding to stay on main Hwy 18 which was clear to Mule Creek Junction in Wyoming.\u00a0 No consideration was given to any other significant breaks the rest of the way.<\/p>\n<p>Lupe arrived at cousin Dusty&#8217;s house in Arvada before mid-afternoon <em>(2:06 PM, 39\u00b0F)<\/em>.\u00a0 Dusty and Andrea were both home and answered the door.\u00a0 Lupe dashed right in all excited to see them!\u00a0 After the initial excitement, Loop sniffed around for a few minutes.\u00a0 Yes, it was all coming back to her now.\u00a0 The Carolina Dog did remember this place!<\/p>\n<p>A lot of pent-up canine energy needed to be released.\u00a0 Dusty, Andrea, Lupe and SPHP set out on a favorite walk around the 100 acre field out in back of Dusty&#8217;s house.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12357\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12357\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_8508.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-12357\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_8508-1024x768.jpg?resize=660%2C495\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"495\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_8508.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_8508.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_8508.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_8508.jpg?w=1651&amp;ssl=1 1651w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/adventuresoflupe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/IMG_8508.jpg?w=1320&amp;ssl=1 1320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12357\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Andrea, Dusty &amp; Lupe isn&#8217;t used to being around children much, especially infants. She sometimes eyed Felix suspiciously as he crawled toward her. The creekbed was dry down here, but contained a little flowing water higher up. led to a tiny creek in a ravine.\u00a0 At a big rock beside the little stream, it was time for a break.\u00a0 Lupe and Dusty shared some Taste of the Wild.\u00a0 Joe and SPHP had apples.\u00a0 Dusty fun with babies!\u00a0 Owen was the only baby there at first.\u00a0 Steve and Xochitl had taken Felix with them to visit friends.\u00a0 Felix hadn&#8217;t woken up until 7 AM this morning, a recent personal record of 16 consecutive hours of sleep!<\/p>\n<p>Knowing that SPHP was certain to sneak her some, Lupe was especially pleased at the news that Matt was going to smoke a huge chicken and ribs
